LERCO Strategic Science and Research Centre has definite security of funding
The LERCO Strategic Science and Research Centre has a definitive guarantee of funding. This was given to the project by Wednesday's decision of the Ministry of the Environment. More than CZK 1.8 billion will thus flow to LERCO through the Operational Programme for Equitable Transformation. Other approved projects in the Moravian-Silesian Region are the so-called Black Cube and REFRESH projects.
The long-awaited decision of the Ministry of the Environment arrived in Ostrava on Wednesday 21 February. The ministry gave the final green light for a subsidy of more than CZK 1.8 billion, which will help finance the new science and research centre in Ostrava-Vítkovice.
The Life Environment Research Center Ostrava - a state-of-the-art scientific research hub - will provide space for 9 research teams dedicated to biomedicine, life sciences and behavioral health research. It will help to transform the Moravian-Silesian region towards science and innovation, stop the brain drain and attract new scientific capacity from home and abroad.
At the turn of the year, the construction of a nearly CZK 700 million building was officially launched, which will serve as a base for scientific research teams. Construction will be completed in early 2026, when scientists from the University of Ostrava and the University Hospital Ostrava will move in. After pilot operation, it will be fully operational from 2027.
In addition to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ostrava, the Faculty of Science of the University of Ostrava and the Faculty of Education of the University of Ostrava will participate in the LERCO transformation project.
