Ostrava medics will learn to operate using virtual reality
LERCO will enable the teaching of medicine at the most modern level. Virtual reality has become a part of many industries in recent years, not just entertainment. As part of the LERCO scientific research project, educational modules using virtual reality are being created for teaching selected surgical and neurosurgical procedures. The created simulation models should mainly be used by doctors and students of nursing study programs at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ostrava. In the future, also surgeons and other medical personnel in their clinical practice.
The LERCO research hub will be unique
The construction of the LERCO science and research hub is progressing according to plan. It will be a state-of-the-art energy building of the University of Ostrava with top-class facilities and equipment.

Structural Dynamics of Lipid Model Systems and Thylakoid Membranes
On February 21 – 23, 2024, an international Workshop on “Structural Dynamics of Lipid Model Systems and Thylakoid Membranes” was held. In addition to members of the Biophysics group, this Workshop was attended by colleagues from Palacký University in Olomouc, the Institute Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France, Leiden University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Vrije University, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, as well as from several scientific research facilities in Hungary and the USA.
LERCO Strategic Science and Research Centre has definite security of funding
The LERCO Strategic Science and Research Centre has a definitive guarantee of funding. This was given to the project by Wednesday's decision of the Ministry of the Environment.
Commencement of construction
The general contractor Hochtief a.s. was selected in the tender procedure and the contract was concluded on 20.11.2023. As part of another tender procedure, Safety PRO was selected to provide technical supervision of the construction for the University.
LERCO presented at the European Week, Regions and Cities conference in Brussels
At the beginning of October, the University of Ostrava participated in the 21st European Week, Regions and Cities conference, the largest annual event dedicated to cohesion policy in Brussels. In the session entitled "Harness the potential, RESTART the region", Ondřej Slach, Vice-Rector of the University of Ostrava, spoke about the LERCO project. He also focused on identifying the main problems in the region that the LERCO project helps to solve, as well as contributing to the transformation of the region through its activities.
LERCO's synergistic team is already building a strong competitive advantage in the marketplace
At the first expert meeting of all research programmes on Wednesday 8 November, the LERCO project was presented as one of the strategic projects that supports the transformation of our region. The meeting was divided into two sessions, the first focused on presenting the project towards the professional community, while the second focused on sharing inside the program. The mutual support created the conditions for each member of the project to work to the best of their ability.

A new programme is being produced on Tv Polar to showcase the positive changes in the region and to introduce the transformation projects in the pipeline.
INFORM EU in Ostrava
A major event called INFORM EU took place in Ostrava from 14 to 16 November 2023. At the meeting, which was attended by more than 230 communication officers of European funds from all over the European Union, the LERCO project was presented by its principal investigator, Professor Roman Hájek.
